USER AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS
FOR WOODEN WINDOWS AND DOORS

BAS windows are made of bonded wood obtained by joining of three layers of pine or mahogany wood by means of an adhesive resistant to water and increased temperature. These windows are fitted with envelope type hardware. When the handle is down, the window is closed. When the handle is positioned horizontally, the window is open. The hopper function is activated by turning the handle upwards. The microvent function is activated by turning the handle 45 degrees from vertically upwards.

The window must not be closed when the handle is down or up, because this will damage the window closing mechanism!

To ensure long-term faultless function of the window, once a year check the position of the casement in relation to the frame and lubricate all the moving hardware elements. The casement is positioned correctly by vertical and horizontal adjustment of the hinges. To enable faultless functioning of the hardware the following operations must be done at least once a year:

1. Lubricate or oil all moving parts and bolting points.
2. Use only grease or oil free of acids and resins.
3. Check hardware fastening points, this is important for safety reasons.
If necessary, in points susceptible to wear and tear, tighten the fastening screws or possibly replace the defective elements.

Note! Adjustment of hardware, in particular in the area of the bottom hinge bracket and the limiter, as well as replacement of hardware or disassembly or installation of the window casement must be done by Authorised Installation Groups.

To preserve the permanent varnish coating, the window frames should be treated at least twice a year with special formulas for cleaning window frames, produced by e.g. LAKMA, GORI or SIGMA.
Note! Window cleaning liquids should not be used for cleaning of window frames since these liquids contain SALMIAK which is harmful to acrylic surfaces. Use only neutral cleaning agents. All cleaning agents must be chlorine-free. Scrubs and solvents such as acetone or nitro must not be used either since the frames would lose their lustre.
Water based acrylic paints are recommended for repainting.

WARNING:
- Additional loads must not be applied to the window casement!
- The hinges must not be overloaded by flinging the casement open, which may result in breaking the window hinges (e.g. causing draughts)!
- The casement must not be secured against closing by blocking it with a hard object.

The windows are very tight. When the level of humidity in the room increases, condensed vapour may appear on the window pane. This is a sign that the room needs improved ventilation.
Brief and intense airing of the room is necessary.
In windows fitted with microvent type hardware, the casement should be set to this minimum opening.
Humidity sensitive air handlers, e.g. AERECO, or mechanical air handlers, e.g. VENTAIR II, are recommended for poorly ventilated rooms

The life of a varnish coat is determined by the level of environmental pollution and the degree of exposure to adverse weather conditions. Therefore, the condition of the coat must be regularly checked (particularly on the outside of the building) and if necessary, at least every 5 years, the coat should be renovated.
When painting, pay particular attention not to paint the gaskets and hardware. To increase the life of the coat it is recommended to treat it with special wood protection formulas at least twice a year.
